Haha... well, I wouldn't say that most of my humor is related to food, but I do write a lot of food jokes. There are a couple of reasons for this, I guess. First, it's universal – everyone loves some kinds of food. Second, enjoying food is something we all do, no matter who we are or where we come from. So, when the writers and I reference food in funny ways, lots of people understand and laugh along.
A great example of this is when I created spaghetti tacos on iCarly. Spencer was making dinner for the kids, and as I was writing the scene I thought to myself, "Spencer is a super creative, wacky kind of guy – he's not going to make something normal or boring." And I thought it would be cool and interesting if he had the idea to put spaghetti in tacos.
At the time, it was just a little throw-away joke in one iCarly episode. But the audience loved it, and the idea of spaghetti tacos caught on with lots of people. To this day, 5 or 6 years after that episode aired, I still get frequent comments and photos from fans about how they made spaghetti tacos at home. In fact, it became such a national fad, the New York Times wrote an article about spaghetti tacos, which you can read here:
